Spot gold fluctuated mainly between $4,000 and $4,300, eventually closing down 0.2% at $4,008.61 per ounce; spot silver closed up 0.88% at $56.40 per ounce.
International oil prices rose nearly 1% during the session as traders weighed hopes for a resumption of U.S.-Iran negotiations against the Houthi rebels’ maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia in Yemen.WTI crude opened higher but continued to retreat, briefly falling to near the $80 mark during the session before recovering some of its losses; it ultimately closed up 0.7% at $82.91 per barrel. Brent crude closed up 0.86% at $87.50 per barrel.
